VMS driving innovation in entrepreneurial mentorship at UAlberta

UAlberta VMS Chair and ThresholdImpact founder Dr. Ray Muzyka, BioWare co-founder and UAlberta alumnus (BMedSci 1990, MD 1992), recently launched the second year of the expanded UAlberta Venture Mentoring Service program, which will continue to connect, inspire and propel young entrepreneurs to success. The VMS program was launched as a pilot program in 2013 and connects enterprising UAlberta students and alumni with local business leaders who advise and coach the entrepreneurs.

“We strive first to develop the entrepreneurs, whereas most other entrepreneurial mentorship programs focus solely on the ventures,” says Muzyka. “This approach empowers our future business and community leaders, allowing them to reach new heights. It increases the odds of success in both their current and future ventures.”

VMS is open to student and alumni entrepreneurs from all sectors. The second year of the program will focus on recruiting additional experienced, passionate mentors; provide training for mentors to enable them to hone their mentorship skills and professional development to help entrepreneurs become better mentees and leaders; and offer exclusive, high-impact educational sessions to all participants.
